To be honest what drew me to the Hitachi C10FCE2 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw was the folding frame style fence and sub frame/fence on the right side (optional) that extend its flexibility to hold onto longer pieces of wood and provide support over a long distance. That combined with the clamp system hitachi designed for left or right hand feed lets you setup your workpiece firmly in the fence, turn on the laser, and make the cut with your hands nowhere near the wood because it is so well clamped down.
I assembled
the saw accessories in about 5 minutes (flip over fence, rear stabilizer bar,
and hold down) and took it out to my shop. First up was a standard pine 2x4.
Plugged in the saw and gave the trigger a pull. The first thing I noticed as a nice
soft start mechanism, very nice. The blade started spinning and had little to
no vibration. I love the horizontal anti vibe handle. Pulled the saw down and
cut through the 2x4 like a hot knife through butter. I was impressed at this
price point. Next up were some miter cuts. 52 degrees left and right, no
problem. The indicator is very thin which makes for more exacting measurements,
again very nice. Next up, bevel. Went to 45 degrees, gave the handle a tug and
i had a clean 45 degree bevel. Checked the angles and they were spot on, right
from the factory. I cut 2x6's, stacked 2 2x4's, and stacked 2 2x6's and it cut
them without any problems or bogging down. This saw will cut 4x4 posts no
problem at 90 degrees.
Features And Specifications:
- Carbide blade included
- Equipped with a 15-amp motor
- Large pivoting fence
- No-load speed of 5,000 RPM
- Bevel angle from 0-45, miter range from 0-52,
I've
had miter saws kick off pieces when I square up the end of a feed piece and
this system doesn't have that tendency due to the clamps provided (you get a
hand tightened t-nut in the base, a 3/8" rod, and then another vertical
clamp to that rod that drops down to your workpiece with a 1.5" disc which
you can twist down to hold the work in place securely. No hands required during
the cut. Avoiding any kickback is a nice feature during operation of the saw.
But for
all my other uses, crown moulding, quarter-round, trimming out a window, I had
fun and they look great. I would recommend this saw for those who aren’t
looking to spend an arm and a leg.
Excellent
all around miter saw. Cuts straight and square with no issues. I've installed
flooring and trim with it and have had zero issues aside from a little bit of
chipping on some of the trim pieces which is typical for using a factory blade.
One of the best things about this saw is being able to carry it easily one
handed. A 12 inch or even a 10 inch slider is impossible to lug around one
handed unless you are built like a college linebacker.

This
is a nice saw. Its solid, a steady cut,not too heavy, good firm grip. Runs
smooth. Ive used miter saws for many years and owned several brands. Im pretty
happy with this one. Ive seen them around but never realy considered this
brand. I like the feel of it when making a cut, the smooth operation of the
guard and solid smooth operation of the motor and blade. Cord is a good length
and the table locks into the preset miters nice.
I also
noted early in the job that this saw has no trouble shaving a fraction of an
inch off a piece of lumber, if you find you've cut too long. Perfect, since I
don't have a tabled belt or disc sander to deal with such excess. Also, as
previously mentioned, this saw can handle up to 6-inch deep cuts in 90-degree
mode. It comes just short of an 8" cut, though it's easy to flip and
finish if you are so inclined.
It cut
through wood like butter and the cuts were very clean. Measurements are precise.
The only thing i will change is the blade if i'm doing more delicate cuts, but
for baseboards, door trim and crown moulding, you can't go wrong. Tested it
with 2x4's and it just sliced through them.
Moldings
are my most demanding work, and therefore: the most demanding requirement for
this purchase was that the saw had to be capable of precise calibration. Saws
don't come calibrated, because shipping knocks them out of adjustment. So a
person must adjust their saw before any rigorous work. I don't like "hack
jobs." I like to do clean and precise work. To achieve that goal, a saw
must be fully adjustable in both miter and bevel, but also the scales and/or
the pointers must be adjustable. Most saws have poor to non-existent facility
for full calibration. This saw is fully adjustable, you can make it square in
both axies, and make its scales "read true."
The
laser is a bonus and well worth the extra $30. I did not have to adjust the
laser. It worked perfectly out of the box. The laser really facilitates cutting
slightly adjusted angles - that is if you cut an angle on a piece of wood then
mark what the angle should be, you line up the laser on your marking by
adjusting the angle, tighten it up, then put the new piece of wood on the guide
and cut it. A real time saver.
Pros:
- Great price on a name-brand miter saw,
- Set up and square right out of the box,
- Good powerful motor- saw can handle most framing materials, hardwoods, and lumber with ease- up to the width of a 2x6 in one pass,
- Reasonably well built, sturdy,
- Dust collection bag works surprisingly well,
- It's super light for mobility,
- 5 Year Warranty!
Cons:
- Blade should be upgraded unless you're just doing framing or using this as a chop saw,
- Bevel adjustment is unintuitive (the screw turns backwards),
- Miter adjustment is a bit sloppy,
- The saw draws 15 amps,
- No way to hold the blade guard back when changing blades.
Testimonials:
I found 682 customer reviews on Amazon
at the time of writing and they had awarded the Hitachi C10FCE2 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw ,4.4 stars out of a possible 5.0 stars on average.
This saw
feels heavy duty and cuts through 2x4's like butter. For anyone looking for a
miter saw this one is definitely the one to get. Don't waste your money on
those other brand's that charge you way too much.
I would
buy this saw all over again if I had to. I'm very glad that I made the right
choice in switching to Hitachi.
